F.A.Q

How do braces work

Before your brackets are placed, Dr. Thom, or Nikolas will begin by taking detailed photos and X-rays of your mouth. When needed, we’ll also use our state-of-the-art scanner to capture a precise 3D image of your teeth, gums, and bite. This quick 10–15 minute scan provides highly accurate digital data.

Using this information, your doctor will design a personalized treatment plan that maps out exactly how each tooth should move to reach its ideal position.

Bracket placement is carefully planned based on your specific needs. For instance, teeth that need to be tilted will have brackets positioned differently than those that need to be rotated.

After attaching the brackets, a specialized wire is threaded through them. Small bends in the wire apply specific types of pressure to guide your teeth into place. These precise adjustments are what allow orthodontists to create controlled and effective tooth movement.

What braces are made of?

Metal braces have stood the test of time as a dependable way to correct a wide range of orthodontic issues. At Athens orthodontic center, they remain a top choice for patients of all ages.

These braces often work faster at closing gaps and straightening teeth than some alternative treatments, which may help reduce your overall treatment time.

They’re also an affordable option since they don’t require the advanced technology or costly materials that some newer options use.

Today’s metal braces are smaller, more comfortable, and more attractive than ever before. Made from durable, high-quality stainless steel, they’re the most common type of braces you’ll encounter.

Each bracket is attached to the front of your teeth and connected by an archwire that gently guides your teeth into the correct position, all under the expert supervision of Dr. Thomas or Dr. Nikolas

How Long Does Metal Braces Treatment Take?

Many patients ask this, but there isn’t a simple answer since every smile and treatment plan is unique. The duration of metal braces varies depending on how your teeth respond to the process.

On average, treatment takes about 18 to 22 months, but your personalized plan from our doctors might be shorter or longer.

At Athens orthodontic center some patients complete their treatment in as little as six months, while more complex cases can take over three years.

Thanks to the care provided by Dr. Nikolas, Dr. Thomas, and our team, you’ll start seeing positive changes early on, helping you stay motivated throughout your journey to a beautiful smile.
